MariaDB Catalogs: Optimising SaaS Deployments with Containerized Databases
Abstract
In this talk we will be presenting the current development state of MariaDB Catalogs. The talk will also include use cases, both for SaaS providers but also Enterprise deployments that want to simplify their management systems.
Description
MariaDB Catalogs is an upcoming feature in MariaDB Server, aimed at SaaS providers looking to optimize their deployment. MariaDB Catalogs essentialy introduces “containers” inside the database, offering each tenant what looks like a fully deployed MariaDB Server, only it is running on a single MariaDB instance.
This deployment strategy brings in numerous advantages, such as better user experience (no artificial imposed limitations), reduced multi-tenant overhead (compared to dedicated instances per tenant), easier monitoring and easier backup and restore.
This talk will present the current development state of Catalogs, as well as the remaining work and show a proof of concept of two WordPress applications running in separate catalogs as a demo.
