MariaDB Buildbot

Buildbot.mariadb.org is the continuous integration testing platform developed and managed by the MariaDB Foundation as well as its contributors. It is based on the Buildbot.net open-source testing framework. By streamlining the testing process and providing real-time feedback, it helps the developers of MariaDB Server to catch potential issues early on and ensures the code quality for all releases.

For more technical information please check out the Buildbot repository documentation.

It is an important part of preparing all releases of MariaDB Server and not only providing functionality but also version upgrades testing. Constant improvements are done to ensure better resource allocation as well as maintaining the relevant platforms for the userbase.

  • You can find the configuration files on the dedicated repository on GitHub.
  • For an introduction to the Buildbot framework, check out their tutorial.
  • Relevant information and topics can also be found and discussed on the public Buildbot channel over on Zulip.

Starting from January of 2025, Buildbot releases can be found on the MariaDB Foundation Development Jira project (MDBF) covering all included Jira items (an account is required to see the release information).

Another tool allowing for easier filtering of the tests results is CrossReference, developed locally by the MariaDB Foundation.

Hardware donations

We are sincerely grateful to community members who contribute hardware to the MariaDB Buildbot infrastructure. Your support helps us test MariaDB across different platforms, identify issues earlier, and deliver reliable releases.

If you would like to donate hardware or discuss the requirements, please contact us at admin@mariadb.org. We would be delighted to hear from you.

Building MariaDB and running its test suite require substantial computing resources. To help donated servers contribute effectively, we kindly ask prospective donors to consider the following guidelines.

Hardware

  • At least 16 dedicated CPU cores and 32 GB of RAM, to support parallel builds and test runs and provide timely feedback to developers.
  • At least 200 GB of storage, to accommodate the MariaDB source and build trees, along with temporary test data.
  • Dedicated SSD/NVMe storage is strongly preferred, as MariaDB tests can be highly I/O-intensive. Dedicated resources help ensure consistent performance, reduce test execution times, and keep the build queue moving.

Availability

  • An uptime target of at least 99.99%. Our infrastructure runs builds and tests throughout the day. Consistent availability helps avoid interrupted jobs, repeated work, and delays in developer feedback, particularly when a server provides coverage for a specific platform.
  • A reliable internet connection, ideally a symmetric 1 Gbps connection, to transfer source code, build dependencies, and test artifacts efficiently in both directions.

We understand that maintenance and occasional outages are unavoidable. Advance notice of planned downtime, whenever possible, helps us schedule work around it.

Access

To maintain a consistent testing environment and troubleshoot issues efficiently, we kindly ask for:

  • Root SSH access or KVM/IPMI access.
  • Permission to reinstall the operating system and fully manage the server.
  • Outbound IPv4 UDP traffic allowed to buildbot.mariadb.org:51820, for the WireGuard connection used by our build infrastructure.

Thank you for your generosity and for helping improve MariaDB for the whole community.
