MariaDB visions: Innovations, Contributions and AI

Abstract

MariaDB is more than just a database – it is a global movement of innovation and contribution.
At MariaDB Server Day in Amsterdam, we are sharing our vision: how to bring AI closer to user data, and user data closer to AI.

We celebrate – and actively invite – four kinds of contributions:
1️⃣ Classic, yet challenging MDEV code contributions in C, going straight into MariaDB Server itself.
2️⃣ Integration contributions that connect MariaDB Server with Python, Java, Rust, Go, JavaScript – and with integration frameworks, LLMs and AI toolchains.
3️⃣ Innovation contributions that showcase real-world use cases or reference implementations of MariaDB’s capabilities.
4️⃣ Documentation contributions that improve our docs and training materials, making MariaDB more accessible to all.

And we invite you to take part in our global MariaDB Python Hackathon, run in partnership with BangPypers in Bangalore – open to participants across the world.

🎯 Our AI vision is this:
Large Language Models use their own data structures – not relational databases. User data, however, remains stored in relational databases. The success of AI within any organisation depends on how well these two pools of data are integrated.
This is where MariaDB has a clear role: to provide and integrate user data into the overall AI process.
Today, this begins with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
Over time, MariaDB aims to remove all obstacles to successful access to relational data from an AI perspective.
A key aspect right now is to enable vibe coders – creative developers working in AI environments – to use MariaDB, ideally by default.

💡 Join us. Innovate. Integrate. Inspire.

Be part of the future where MariaDB is at the heart of both data and AI
