Abstract

Many of our customers finally wish to migrate from Ingres to alternative open source platforms such as MariaDB. It’s the end of an era, having done my first Ingres project in 1988 and facilitating the further reduction of our customer base feels strange, but if it’s going to happen we would like to be involved to develop our reputation supporting MariaDB customers.

It should be simple shouldn’t it, but the road to hell is paved with apparent simplicity!

We will summarise some of the hazards and talk about what we have done to overcome these hazards. Nothing earth shattering but hopefully some useful ideas on what to consider to simplify and de-risk this activity.
