Announcing the first MariaDB Hackathon – in India!
On the 24th – 25th October 2024 we will be hosting our first-ever Hackathon as part of our larger MariaDB Foundation presence around Open Source India.
What is a Hackathon?
If you have never done one before, it is basically a fun and challenging technology event where the goal is to create new things. Attendees are split into small teams of 5-10 people. An open source project is chosen to create and/or improve upon, and you have a day to work on it (and night as well if you really want to). On the second day, your team will need to give a presentation to show the work they have done. The judges for the event will then pick teams to win prizes based on various criteria.
About the event
The MariaDB Foundation is a sponsor for Open Source India in Bengaluru, we have talks at the event and there will be a fringe MariaDB Day. In addition to all of this, we decided to host our first-ever MariaDB Hackathon.
Our Hackathon will be themed around MariaDB Vector, specifically modifying an LLM framework. You will make a small team and that team will chose an LLM framework to make work with MariaDB Vector. Then you will create a demo application which will use the framework, the more inventive the better!
On the morning of the second day, your team can present their work and there will be prizes awarded in various categories.
What you need
The event will be in-person at the NIMHANS Convention Centre, you will need to bring a laptop capable of installing MariaDB Server and developing your project. Members of the MariaDB Foundation will be at the event to assist as needed.
You will need to be able to develop code in a relevant language to an LLM framework, such as Python. Having experience of using MariaDB Server is an advantage, but not required.
