Unleashing Innovation Through Plugins
One of the corner stones in MariaDB Foundation’s mission is:
We strive to increase adoption by users and across use cases, platforms and means of deployment.

MariaDB Server plugins are definitely a prime “means of deployment” for server features. But a relatively neglected one so far. They have been around for many years. But, somehow, they have escaped the user’s focus. Why that happened is a very interesting topic. And one that I’d definitely like to hear your opinion on!
Which brings me to my main topic: How do we all change that? It feels like everybody can benefit from increased visibility of the plugin infrastructure’s architectural and practical features. And from a unified starting point for everything plugins.
So I went ahead and created just that: Meet https://mariadb.org/plugins/ !
The intention here is to keep this page up to date with all the latest around plugins. And prominently display the resources plugin developers and users can leverage. But, most importantly (and in a true open source fashion) the page also contains a place for you to participate: there is a convenient form to allow you to share your ideas.
Because I firmly believe that, given enough eyeballs, all problems are shallow! So,
- Learn what MariaDB plugins are
- Discover existing plugin-based features
- Build your own server plugins
- Share plugin ideas with the community
Please share your experience! We’d definitely want to help you find answers to all of your plugin related questions!
Head to https://mariadb.org/plugins/ and start interacting!
