The Past, the Present and the Future of the MariaDB release model

Abstract

MariaDB server is a mature product with a long history. Over the years it evolved over a line of different release models, adjusting as the user base was growing.

This talk will walk you through the the historical MariaDB release models, what tasks they were solving, what challenges they were facing. It will describe the current MariaDB release model. How it works, is it an improvement, are there any drawbacks (hint: yes). And it will end with a discussion of a possible future release model.

Sergei Golubchik, MariaDB plc

Sergei was a MySQL developer since 1998. From 1999 to 2009 in MySQL AB, Sun, then in Monty Program AB and MariaDB Corporation on MariaDB. During these years he has touched almost every part of the server. To list a few projects – fulltext search, XA, HANDLER, precision math library, parallel repair and bulk inserts in MyISAM, indexes in MERGE. Sergei is a primary architect of the plugin API and an author of the “MySQL 5.1 Plugin Development” book.
