Location

The event will take place in Tampere, Finland. There is an airport in Tampere, but for most people it is more convenient to fly to Helsinki airport and take the cheap and quick train to Tampere. See our travel tips to Tampere.

Developers Unconference

The 27th and 28th of June will be the traditional unconference. Anyone interested in contributing (code or otherwise) to the MariaDB open source project is welcome to join. You don’t need to be a core developer to attend. This is an open community and we welcome new contributors who are willing to learn and work in the open source way.

There will be in depth presentations and discussions on various topics related to MariaDB open source development.

The event is an unconference, with lots of opportunities for discussions and collaboration around any topic. Performance, new features, connectors, packaging, documentation? You can help decide what. Many of the core MariaDB developers will be present and available for discussions.

Provisional schedule

The goal for the event is to provide face time among the developers, both new and old, so that they can crack hard problems or plan future features.

New Contributor Day

The 26th of June will be a day dedicated to new developers. If you have been interested in contributing to MariaDB, but don’t know where to start, or have made some minor contributions and want to deepen you knowledge of the way MariaDB development works, this is the day to attend. Prior knowledge of C/C++ is required. Bring your own laptop!

Patch review days

One day will be devoted to patch review as in-person discussions facilitate this much faster than the regular online review process. This is also a good time to together design and implement the ideas from the days before, while they’re fresh, and while you’re still able to talk to other developers in person.

If you require a letter of invitation for a visa application, please email your personal details, address, passport number and other information required to ian@mariadb.org, and the MariaDB Foundation will produce an invitation for you.

If you have questions about the event or about contributing to MariaDB in general, feel free to start a discussion on the MariaDB developers mailing list or the MariaDB discuss mailing list.
