luroConnect recently published a case study on migrating a 500 GB production MariaDB database from Amazon RDS to EC2. The article documents the migration process, architecture, rollback planning and costs, reporting under ten minutes of downtime and an 83% reduction in the database infrastructure bill.
Sharing this kind of operational detail gives other teams useful evidence when evaluating their own infrastructure. It also shows how database configuration, application behaviour and deployment architecture work together to determine the outcome.
