QUAPE Joins the MariaDB Foundation as a Silver Sponsor

We are delighted to welcome QUAPE, a Singapore-based leader in high-performance hosting and IT infrastructure, as a Silver Sponsor of the MariaDB Foundation.

Founded in 2006, QUAPE provides enterprise-grade hosting solutions for businesses across Asia and beyond — from dedicated servers and VPS platforms to cybersecurity and custom software development. Their long-standing focus on reliability, speed, and scalable infrastructure mirrors the values we uphold within the MariaDB ecosystem.

One of the core responsibilities of the Foundation is to maintain and advance the MariaDB buildbot infrastructure: the continuous integration system that tests every change, validates every platform, and keeps MariaDB Server stable for millions of users worldwide.

Mirror, Mirror on DB-Engines: The MariaDB Story

Mirror, mirror on the wall — what do you measure when you measure us all?
Is it skill, or is it voice?
Is it code, or is it conversation?
DB-Engines is not a looking glass of perfection, but a mirror of perception — reflecting the chorus of those who search, speak, teach, compare, and build. And like every enchanted mirror, it shows not only what is, but what the world believes it sees.

MariaDB today stands firmly among the world’s top relational databases.
Not by inheritance, and not by illusion, but by the millions who use it, trust it, and shape it.

Wrapping up the MariaDB Bucharest Meetup

This past Friday was reserved for our very own cozy event in Bucharest, planned by the romanian squad of the MariaDB Foundation. With an audience ranging from students just starting out on their journey up to seniors with experience in multiple database servers and AI, lots of interesting talks took place. We were glad to meet the Head of Domains and IT Technology of our gold sponsor, IONOS.

Although not his first visit in Romania, Monty’s attendance was a welcome sight, even bringing in people from the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom.

SkySQL is our new Silver sponsor!

We’re excited to announce that SkySQL has joined the MariaDB Foundation as a Silver sponsor.

SkySQL is the first and only database service designed, built and optimised specifically for MariaDB Server. Recently spun out of MariaDB plc as an independent company, SkySQL remains led by the core team which created it and continues to provide the community with unique and powerful capabilities for running production databases in the cloud. With features such as autonomous scaling, subsecond failover and multi-cloud deployment, SkySQL provides a world-class cloud experience for the MariaDB community — and supports our mission of making MariaDB Server the preferred database of choice for all organisations.

MariaDB & IONOS: Improving performance for hosting

The MariaDB Foundation values our partnerships with our sponsors. Our partnership with IONOS allows us to get insight into how MariaDB Server is used and the direction it should take. As well as generally improving MariaDB Server in many different ways.

IONOS story

At CloudFest 2023, one of the first meetings we had was with Stefan Erkeling from IONOS. It was a very good meeting and it was great to see how much IONOS values our partnership. Stefan indicated in the meeting that there was a performance issue they were hitting and some advice was needed.

A different kind of tech conference

Last Wednesday, I received an unexpected text: “Would you like to do some volunteering work? It involves speaking online to some kids for one hour about IT”. It was a classmate from high school.

MariaDB Foundation employees work remotely. Sure, we all meet together in one place a number of times a year so we don’t forget each other’s faces, but in 99% of our logged time, we are distributed around the globe. We are also not required to have a strict working schedule and this offers us the opportunity to say yes easily to these sort of events.

FOSDEM 2020: Some memories and todos

FOSDEM gives energy. FOSDEM gives ideas. FOSDEM opens up opportunities, FOSDEM allows you to connect with old friends and colleagues. Hence, no big surprise that MariaDB Foundation attended FOSDEM, in order to promote Open Source and to get ourselves closer to the community.

Starting from a pre-FOSDEM dinner with Member of the European Parliament Nils Torvalds, over Open Source Diva Danese Cooper’s keynote about “Open Source is Art”, to the MySQL, MariaDB and Friends Devroom and Sunday’s MariaDB Day, concluding with OpenForum Europe’s meeting on Monday, my previous weekend was packed with encounters, discussions, and ideas around Open Source.
